Game of Thrones is currently on hiatus. Fans are already preparing for the long break between seasons. It looks like they are going to have wait a little bit longer than usual for the show to return, however. There's been no formal date yet announced. However, on a podcast, Game of Thrones' showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have announced that the apparent penultimate and shortened season 7 will air a little bit later than usual. 5 Steps for Coping with a Short Game of Thrones Season >>> Hitfix reports that in UFC Unfiltered podcast Weiss and Benioff were interviewed about Game of Thrones season 7. Though the episode order will be shorter, production has been pushed back later than usual. This will mean a delay in the airing of the episodes. "We don't have an air date yet," Benioff and Weiss explained. "We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' -- and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot." Game of Thrones has typically started at the end of April or early May, running into the middle of the summer. This scheduling change suggests that the show might be at least a couple months later than usual, probably running into the fall. It is exciting, though, that the show really won't be dragging it's feet with winter coming to Westeros. If Game of Thrones needs to delay production so even its sunniest locations like Dorne and King's Landing look a little bit wintery, it should mean that the ultimate threat of the White Walkers will be even more keenly felt in season 7. We aren't the only ones theorizing on season 7 though. Entertainment Weekly caught up with a few of the people behind some beloved Game of Thrones characters and asked them what they'd like to see happen in season 7. Top 10 Empowering Female Moments from Game of Thrones Season 6 >>> Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, said of her character, "I'd love for her to be a bit of a lone ranger. I'd love for her to be kind of like The Hound. I don't really want her to reunite with her family because I don't think that they're the same people anymore or that she's the same person anymore. I think she's better off on her own. I'd love for her to be alive, actually, and be her own boss." Williams also lists Cersei as the character who she believes is at the top of Arya's kill list. Surprisingly, though, Lena Headey, who plays Cersei, is down with Arya's mission of revenge too. She says she'd love Cersei to have a "great death by Arya," though Headey would also accept Tyrion being the one to do the deed. Point is, Headey does not see Cersei surviving the series. As for Liam Cunnigham, who plays Davos Seaworth, he is just hoping his character manages to make it out alive. "I don't want a knife in the back," Cunningham said, talking about Davos. "I don't [want] him blown up with wildfire. I don't want to be poisoned. I think perhaps he would open a little flower shop somewhere, some begonias, tulips, and settle down with a lot of attractive women from Dorne, with lots of Dornish wine." But what do you think? Will any of these actors/characters get their wishes? What do you see happening in season 7 and beyond? Do you think Cersei has any shot of living to the end of the series? Are you disappointed that the season will be delayed or do you think the delay will pay off? |
